The best way to wash your hair (Product Review)

For those of you who are not familiar with co-washing, it is an abbreviated term for conditioner washing. So just like the name says, co-washing is simply a method of cleansing your hair with conditioner instead of shampoo.  This method of washing is great for all hair types and textures. It works especially well for people with dry, kinky hair because it cleanses the hair without drying it out even further. Shampoo contains surfactants, which does a good job at cleaning the hair, but also has a tendency of drying the hair out causing breakage and frizz if used too often.

Co-washing is more gentle than washing with shampoo. I usually co-wash in between shampoo washes to help keep the natural oils in my hair and to avoid frizz and breakage. I co-wash about every 3-5 days and wash with shampoo 1-2 times per month.  My hair has greatly benefited from co-washing. My hair is softer and more moisturized because of it and I don’t have as much breakage.

I like to use this coconut co-wash by “As I Am”.  I follow up with their leave in conditioner. It contains a nice blend of natural ingredients that works to promote healthy hair growth. I start by wetting my hair then applying the co-wash and working it through. I detangle my hair with a wide tooth comb and rinse it out. I do that 1-2 times and then follow up with the “As I Am Leave in Conditioner”. This has got to be one of my favorite hair care products. It’s very affordable. You can buy it from Wal-mart, or Sally’s.  The co-wash is about $8 and the leave in conditioner is about $13.
